Thank you! And oh my goodness, she was ecstatic when she saw your comment as well! I don't think she, or I, have ever ran into another LaVonna either. A beautiful name that belongs to powerful women💕
In my years I’ve seen a few. Most with different spellings. I was named after my grandmother. However, hers is spend spend differently . I had to do a double take when I saw yours. 🙂❤️
You are such a blessing. You created a masterpiece with your words. The painting of a portrait that cannot be unseen. What a tribute to your grand mother’s and I.
My heart is full with gratitude of your reflection, and projection of me. My eyes are full of tears as you describe the pillar of strength that my mom was and all that she left for each of us. He strength was definitely displayed unto death, or shall I say into death. The peace, warmth and smile of your granny Hicks is spot on. We may not know her story or all there is to know about her. But to know her is to love her and to know that she is love.
Continue you aspire and inspire my dear. Much love and admiration for you!!!!!
The opening of this piece is so gorgeous. I really love your reflections on motherhood and lineage. It's so special that you're able to hold the stories of the women who made you aside your own as a mother. Thanks for such an offering.
This sang directly to my heart. What a gorgeous, living, breathing artifact this is for the women who came before you and those who will come after.
Your words on motherhood, “It stripped me, yet brought me closer to myself, closer to God, than I have ever been before.” Oh I feel that. That has been my experience, too.
And reading this brought me right back to the way my family held vigil at my maternal grandmother’s beside as she slipped away (though will always remain with us and in us)
I find that many mothers go through similar experiences as they enter into the role. And to be able to be by a loved one’s bedside as they make their transition is such a beautiful, yet heavy, thing. Hope the sweet memories are the ones that stand stronger than the grief🤎
“all their calm and all their storm” my goodness, what a line. what a beautiful offering to the women of your life 🤍
sn: I’ve never seen anyone else share my first name with me! cheers to your mother 🥹💐
